In 2011 - 2012 Thomas Fabian Delmas, as partner at Kollision Design Office, was responsible for developing a ‘virtual/aesthetic profile’ for the new Ørestad School & Library, with a specific focus on allowing users to be co-producers of content. The overall aim was to make the building, and the activities in it. a social beacon for the Ørestad development area - a relatively new urban development back in 2011.

The process was based on a series of workshops with users and staff, using a variety of methods, including Utopiatyping and later a minecraft competition for the entire area. The final implementation of the profile included large screens featuring Kollision’s Mosaic-software, which collected video, text and pictures from social media such as YouTube, Picasa, Flickr, Google Spreadsheet etc. The Mosaic allowed users to publish their own content, using existing social media instead of creating a proprietary system. The Mosaic presented the content in a characteristic format creating a distinctive aesthetic profile for the library and school. The Mosaics, created by the users and the staff at the library, were shown on two large video walls on the central pillars. Each video wall was controlled by touchscreens at the base of the pillars.

We also created two touch-based installations based on Kollision’s MapWeb software. One installation was aimed at way-finding and the other at creating a learning space for pupils from Ørestad School visiting the library. MapWeb was a flash-based CMS, allowing the staff to upload pictures, video and text to a large ‘map’, which users could navigate on the two touchscreens built into furniture designed by Claus Bjarrum Arkitekter.
